The Umm Al Quwain Police have seized a large number of counterfeit spareparts of Mercedes cars from a warehouse in the Umm Al Thoob area of Umm Al Quwain and arrested one person.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department of the UAQ Police, the spareparts included 76,680 dimmer switches and filters, and 9,980 empty boxes with Mercedes logos printed on them.
Colonel Humaid Matter, director of the department, said that the police received information from reliable sources that counterfeit products were being stored in a warehouse. A police team raided the warehouse and seized the products, he added.
The police are taking strict measures to prevent such economic crimes, said Major Marwan Al Rashid, head of organised crime section of the UAQ Police.
The section, in cooperation with the Department of Economic Development, has launched a programme to protect the intellectual property rights and trademarks to ensure the safety of the consumers, he said, adding that fake products would create a negative impact on the economy of the country.
