Five men accused of smashing windows of parked cars in the capital and stealing valuable items left inside have been each jailed for a year.
Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First handed down the sentences to the Asian men after they were found guilty of theft.
Official court documents stated that the Asian men were caught at end of last year after police received complaints from residents who reported that their items had been stolen from their cars by unknown persons.
Investigations suggested that the men opened the locks of five cars after smashing the windows using iron rods.
"They then stole cash, credit cards, watches, mobile phones and other items that had been left in the cars by the owners," said a prosecutor.
The men targeted cars left in quiet places especially during the night when owners were sleeping.
The police had tracked down the Asian men after monitoring the areas they were targeting most and arrested them.
Police said two of the men were caught red-handed while breaking into the car left in the street parking in Abu Dhabi.
The pair then led police to their other accomplices.
Police also went and searched the men's houses and seized several stolen items found inside.
The Asians had admitted to prosecutors that they had smashed windows of five cars and stealing items left inside by owners.
But they denied the charges of theft during their hearing in court. The judge however convicted the Asians basing on the evidence presented by prosecutors.
