A man, who sexually harassed a female cleaner at his place, has been sentenced to three months in jail by a Dubai court.
The Court of First Instance was told that the man, a 44-year-old Lebanese manager, took advantage that the Filipina woman was alone with him at his place. He hugged, kissed her on the head and groped her on February 17.
He denied the charge at court but was convicted and will be deported upon completion of his jail term.
The cleaner, 39, said during the public prosecution investigation that around 3.45pm on the incident day, she had an assignment by the cleaning services company she worked for, to go to a customer's flat in the French cluster, International City. "I did not know who the customer was or his name. Upon my arrival, he gave me the keys and told me to clean the kitchen and bedroom. He went out and came back about ten minutes later."
He gave her food. "He took a shower and left the bathroom door open. He walked out later and started a conversation about me. He then told me to go to the bedroom to give him massage," she recounted.
The complainant told the prosecutor her response to the customer was that massage was not part of her duties and that she will leave after she finishes cleaning. "He then told me he would pay me Dh100 because he liked me."
He got close to her from behind, hugged and groped her, she said. "I told him not to touch me and that he should sign the papers before I go. But he signed the papers without writing his name. I went to the police station and filed a complaint."
The defendant can appeal the verdict in 15 days.
