Dubai man tries to fool officials with forged parking card

Dubai - He pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery and using forged documents in the Court of First Instance.

A salesman, who allegedly forged a Roads and Transport Authority parking card by extending its validity by one year, faced a forgery charge in court on Thursday. The 35-year-old Indian salesman used a black pen to change the validity date from 2015 to 2016 on the RTA card.

He put the tampered paper on the front of his car to make sure that the RTA inspector is fooled into believing that he had a valid parking permit and that he had settled the fees.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges of forgery and using forged documents in the Court of First Instance.
The case dates back to September 24, 2016, in Al Barsha.

"I was going about my regular duties of inspecting cars parked in the RTA parking zones, when I checked this one particular car and found the card on its windshield to be issued in 2014 and valid till 2016. It made me suspicious as validity of such cards does not exceed one year. I called my supervisor and learnt from him that the present card had expired in 2015," an RTA inspector told the prosecutor.
The inspector then issued a parking ticket to the car owner and also reported him to the police for forgery.

When the police arrived, they called the accused for investigation but the latter tried to evade their questions. "He looked agitated as he took the parking permit and tried to wipe away the validity year. But the policeman got it back and took him into custody," the inspector added.
The police corporal, who interrogated the salesman about the forgery, said he confessed he forged the RTA parking card by tampering with it and changing the validity year from 2015 to 2016 to extend its use.

The court will sentence the defendant on April 10.
