A man and his two grandchildren were killed after their flat burned down in Ajman on Thursday. The central operations room of Ajman's Civil Defence received a distress call at 12.06pm. A passerby had noticed that smoke was emanating from a flat in the fourth floor of a 6-storey residential building in Al Rashidiya area. Ambulances and firefighters were dispatched to the area. The victims, the 69-year-old grandfather and his two grandchildren aged 6 and 4, were immediately transported to Sheikh Khalifa hospital for treatment. They suffered from smoke inhalation and minor burns but succumbed to their injuries. Brigadier Rashid Jassim Majlad, Deputy Director General of Ajman's Civil Defence department, called on residents and building owners to maintain fire alarms.
