The efforts of diplomats to help their citizens amid the Covid-19 pandemic in the UAE was hailed on the occasion of International Diplomats Day.
Organised by the Consulate-General of India in Dubai on Saturday, October 24, the event also celebrated the 75th anniversary of the United Nations.
Senior diplomatic officials including Ahmed Al Banna, UAE’s Ambassador to India and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation attended the event. Brahmavihari Swami – the lead BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha priest overseeing the development of the new Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi and Sunil Sinha, Resident Director MENA region Tata Sons stressed on the importance of compassion and philanthropy.
“The presence of a number of senior diplomats and officials from UAE exhibited the solidarity towards common goals for making the world a better place to live,” the Indian Consulate tweeted,
Speaking on the occasion, Al Banna said India and UAE have reached a level of ‘strategic relationships.’ He said, “India is the first country where we (UAE) signed a strategic agreement with.”
Consul General of India in Dubai Dr Aman Puri said: “Here in Dubai, we celebrated this special occasion with our friends from the diplomatic community from around the world.” He thanked the UAE leadership for extending their support to all residents, including the large Indian diaspora, during this time of unprecedented crisis.
The heads of diplomatic missions also spoke at length about the efforts taken by the missions to mitigate the crisis.
International Diplomats Day is observed to celebrate the efforts of diplomats annually on October 24 since 2017. Abhay Kumar, ambassador of India to Madagascar and Comoros proposed the idea to celebrate the occasion on United Nations Day.
