While every mother waits for Mother's Day on March 21 to share it with her children, the story is quite different for those who have lost their sons for the sake of the country's safety and stability.
The mothers of the UAE heroes killed in Yemen feel their sons have gifted their soul and blood not only to them, but to the entire nation. One of them is the mother of Corporal Zakaria Sulaiman Al Zaabi, who was recently martyred in the ongoing Saudi-led Operation Restoring Hope in Yemen. "Though I am in grief, I am proud of his exceptional sacrifice and that is the best gift I can expect on Mother's Day, which I will share with his child instead," she said. The 30-year-old martyr had always wished to end his life as a martyr, she added.
The mother of 45-year-old Ahmed Abdurrahman Al Tunaiji, who was killed in the Kandahar blast in January this year, is also proud of her son's incomparable sacrifice. "Of course, I miss him so much, but his heroism fills me with pride and dignity."
The mother of 36-year-old First Lieutenant Rashid Ahmed Abdullah Al Habsi, who was also martyred in Yemen, said: "I prayed to Almighty Allah to give me pat-ience, and accept my son as a martyr. He used to talk to me and bring me gifts, mainly on Mother's Day, but that is not possible anymore."
The mother of Abdullah Al Jab-iri, who was one of the 52 Emirati soldiers martyred in a Houthi missile attack on the province of Marib in Yemen in September 2015, paid tributes to the UAE leadership's for their exceptional support.
"It was not possible for us to pass this unbearable dilemma without God's help first, and second, the outstanding assistance of our leaders who spare no effort to help us and ensure our safety."
Though saddened by the demise of her son, Warrant Officer Ahmed Al Hammadi, his mother said: "It is rather a blessing or a gift from Almighty Allah to have a martyr as one of my family." The 35-year-old Ahmed, from the Old Baida district of Marfa area in Abu Dhabi, was killed in an attack on exiled Yemeni officials and Saudi-led troops in Aden.
