An Asian worker died in Al Ain city after he was struck by lightning.
The incident took place on Friday afternoon when the powerful lightning hit the roof of the home where the man was working.
Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Director General of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, said the sound of the thunderstorm was similar to that of a gas cylinder explosion.
The fire crew and rescue teams were immediately rushed to the scene but they found the Asian man dead. His body was taken to hospital.
The lightning also caused material damage to the place, according to Abu Dhabi Civil Defense.
Al Ansari urged people to take extra precaution from lightning, and asked them to keep tabs on the weather forecasts or monitor weather reports to stay aware and wary about any impending storms.
"In the event of a thunderstorm, people should immediately seek shelter in a nearby building, or in their homes or cars," said the officer. He added that people should also refrain from standing under trees or in open areas.
