UAE govt tells youth: Stop dreaming of govt jobs

Abu Dhabi - Sheikh Abdullah told Emirati students to "invest in yourself" in the face of a rapidly changing world.

The youth of today must prepare for a future in which a large majority of existing jobs has become obsolete, according to Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Speaking at the 'Mohamed bin Zayed Majlis for Future Generations' in Abu Dhabi - which was filled by innovations created by the UAE's young people - Sheikh Abdullah told Emirati students to "invest in yourself" in the face of a rapidly changing world, and noted that as much as 75 per cent of current jobs won't be available in the future for those born this year.
"The challenge is to develop skills and gain as much knowledge as you possibly could, so you can catch up with all the changes that are happening," he said, encouraging the young to focus on entrepreneurial skills and to "stop thinking of securing a job in a governmental entity".
Among those on hand for the Majlis was His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who was briefed on several interactive platforms, projects  and ideas presented by students, schools, and scientific centres.
