The Dubai Police's social media campaign called 'Give Way for Emergency Vehicles' has reached over 308,000 residents.
According to Major Abdullah Rashid bin Huwaidi from the communication awareness department of Dubai Police, the campaign has seen "significant interaction" on the department's Twitter page.
The campaign, which lasted two weeks, was aimed at educating people and raising awareness on the importance of giving way for emergency vehicles by road users.
It was launched in cooperation with the Dubai Ambulance Services, civil defence, and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The police showed four videos that were seen by 300,329 Twitter users, many of whom "expressed admiration for the police's positive interaction with the people".
Maj Huwaidi pointed out that emergency vehicles here face the problem of being blocked en route to accident or incident spots. This happens due to the lack of awareness of some road users about the role and urgency of emergency vehicles in saving people's lives.
The fine for not making way for emergency vehicles is Dh500 and 4 black points.
Drivers are called to pay attention to various types of emergency vehicles on the road, which also come in different colours like blue for police cars, red for rescue vehicles, and yellow on warning vehicles.
