Owners of private parking lots in Sharjah will now have to maintain a unified room or office for the operators who provides the service to motorists.
Private parking investors will have to pay Dh15,000 for the room, a senior official at the Sharjah Municipality told Khaleej Times, adding that this will be mandatory for renewing their licence.
The room will have a uniform design for all parking lots to conform to the technical and safety requirements as well as to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the city.
The operators will not be able to use the room for any other purposes.
The municipality has issued circulars to the owners of private parking lots, explaining new regulations, which make it mandatory for the employees to should wear yellow safety jackets while at work.
The jacket must bear the details, including the name of the establishment on its right side, the name of the worker on the left side, the name of the establishment and its logo on the back of the jacket, in Arabic and English.
The circular said that the room is characterised with appropriate design and comfortable seat for the operator.
The move is part of the civic body's effort to achieve a kind of uniformity in all private parking lots, the official added.
There are 253 private parking lots in Sharjah under the supervision of the municipality, he noted, urging the public to report any violation of these regulations.
The investors who intend to own private parking lots need to submit requests for authorisation for issuing a licence from the planning and surveying department, economic licence from the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), approval from the Roads and Transport Authority and then approval from the municipality.
"The municipality's role is to monitor the compliance of this business with the regulations. In the event of a violation by the operators or owners, the municipality will alert the authorities and grant the violator grace period to amend the situation by ensuring compliance," he said.
