The Sharjah Police have seized 368 vehicles in three months for endangering the lives of other motorists and their passengers on the highways. The police said most of the drivers were caught racing on the roads, during an inspection campaign.
Major Mohammed Khalfan Al Kindi, director of traffic and patrol department for the eastern region, said that the department launched the campaign targeting reckless drivers who pose a danger to other people's lives and cause disturbance in residential areas by making loud noises with their vehicles.
The campaign, carried out under the strategy of the Ministry of Interior, aimed at ensuring safety on emirate's roads. It will be a part of a series of campaigns.
Major Al Kindi explained that the seized cars were found violating the rules. "The police will not tolerate those found putting the lives of innocent people in danger," he said. He added that some of the cars were found to be modified to produce loud sounds, in violation of the law, which places a tough penalty on such activities.
He urged the residents to cooperate with the police by bringing any kind of illegal and negative activities to their notice, and called on motorists to follow the traffic laws and behave safely on the roads.
