2nd edition of King Hamad prize launched

Applicants wishing to vie for the award can submit their applications from June 22 to November 10.

Education Minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi has said the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) had announced on its website the launch of the second edition of the Unesco King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the use of information and communication technologies in education.

Applicants wishing to vie for the award can submit their applications from June 22 to November 10.

The prize is designated to reward innovations in teaching and learning that leverage technology to improve educational outcomes.

The theme for the 2015 prize is “Pedagogical Innovation in the Use of ICT in Teaching and Learning”.

The initiative seeks to recognise organisations and individuals that are embracing ICT and in turn, make learning more effective. The award, launched at an initiative by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, embodies strong cooperation between Bahrain and Unesco and aims to promote international cooperation in the use of ICT in education.

Minister calls for observing outdoor labour ban

Minister of Labour Jameel bin Mohammad Ali Humaidan has called on private sector companies and institutions to commit to the ministerial order for the prohibition of labour against working from 12 noon to 4pm during the months of July and August.

The ministerial order aims at protecting labourers working in construction and open places from the risk of sunstroke and heat exhaustion. The minister called for taking measures to raise awareness aims at protecting the labour force from heat-related complications.

He called for launching lectures to impart information to the labour forces and train them in first aid courses, finding ways to bring down temperature and humidity at work places and offering medical assistance in times of need.

Vaccination for pilgrims after Eid Al Fitr

People planning to perform the Haj pilgrimage are required to report to neighbouring health centres after Eid Al Fitr to undergo medical tests and get vaccinated.

The measure was announced as the health ministry Haj medical mission held its third coordination meeting to review the administrative and health preparations for this year’s Haj season.

Chaired by Dr Ali Baqqara, the panel said that health centres would supply pilgrims with the special Haj and Umrah health booklet which features important instructions and recommendations to ensure their safety.

Dr Ali Baqqara, urged pilgrims suffering from chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular problems, to take their own medication on their Haj trip to Saudi Arabia. He urged Haj contractors to hold lectures to inform pilgrims about prevention from any infectious disease and enhance their awareness so as they avoid sunstrokes, dehydration and heat stress.

He called on Haj contractors to advise pilgrims whose health is unstable to put off their pilgrimage plans for this year.

RCO organises families market

The Royal Charity Organisation (RCO) is holding the “Productive Families Market”, in cooperation with Seef Mall.

Held in the evening throughout the holy month of Ramadan at Seef Mall’s Manama and Muharraq branches, the market showcases products of 15 families registered with RCO, including handicrafts, traditional clothes, spices, accessories, perfumes, among others.

The RCO urged the public to visit the market and buy products made locally.
