Employees at giant construction firm, the Saudi Binladin Group, have set fire to more than seven company buses to protest a reportedly large round of looming layoffs and not being paid their salaries for months.
Spokesperson for Makkah's Civil Defence Maj. Nayef Al Sharif said late Saturday that fire fighters put out the blaze without any injuries reported. The Binladin Group has not issued any statements about the reported layoffs or unrest.
The employees have been staging rare protests in the Kingdom in recent weeks, with some saying they haven't received their wages for for six months.
The attack on the company's buses comes a day after the Saudi Al Watan newspaper quoted an unnamed source saying the cash-strapped company has terminated employment for 50,000 foreign workers and issued them exit visas.
