Play at the second round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic has been suspended for the day because of blustery conditions on Friday.
The forecast over the weekend had been for overcast and windy conditions as well as rain. And true to the word, strong gusty winds hung over the Majlis Course, accompanied by a drizzle.
The sun had played hide and seek all the while before heavy sandstorms cut loose. A tree was felled on the edge of the sixth fairway, while leaf blowers were employed a little earlier to clear the greens.
With this happening just a couple of hours after former world No.1 Tiger Woods had pulled out from the event, it seemed like the weather Gods were perhaps a tad upset by the American's withdrawal.
South African George Coetzee, who was tied second overnight along with Chilean Felipe Aguilar, was in the lead at nine-under after his eight holes, when play was suspended by the European Tour.
Overnight leader Spaniard Sergio Garcia was at eight-under through five holes and was placed second.
The European Tour eventually called off play for the day and said that the second round will restart at 7.30 a.m on Saturday morning.
Organisers in Dubai said that Friday's tickets will be valid for Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Stage Four of the Dubai Tour, which was to run at Hatta Dam, too was cancelled.
