Samsung Galaxy Note7 owners in the UAE can temporarily swap their gadget with Galaxy A7 tomorrow till the new Note7 shipment arrives in the country, sources told Khaleej Times.
The new Note 7 is expected to be available here from September 25 for exchange, the sources said.
"Samsung Gulf Electronics will give Galaxy A7 to all Note 7 owners in the UAE for the time being and it will be replaced by the new Note 7 once the shipment arrives in the last week of September," they said.
The A7 is a popular smartphone which has 5.5-inch display and comes with a 13MP camera. The Note 7 was made available on August 19 in the UAE and nine other select markets but the South Korean smartphone maker was forced to recall 2.5 million devices last week due to a problem with its battery.
Although no issue was reported in the UAE and the Middle East, Samsung suspended the Note7 sales here on September 2 and also launched an exchange programme on September 8.
The company announced 13 locations in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah for the programme. A total of 27,000 Note7 were being pulled off the UAE market after the battery cell issue surfaced, according to the Ministry of Economy.
In a new move, Samsung urged South Korean consumers on Saturday to stop using the Note 7 smartphone, following a similar warning by the US consumer agency and several airlines that are fearful of battery explosions.
"We advise South Korean consumers using the Galaxy Note 7 to stop using the device and to visit nearest service centres to take necessary steps," Samsung said on its website.
On Friday, airlines in the UAE and world over started putting restrictions on the use of the Note 7 in flights to ensure the safety of aircraft operations and passengers.
Airlines in the US and India were also advised by their respective aviation watchdogs to impose a ban on using and charging the Note 7 on board. Airlines in Australia have already banned the use of the Note 7, according to media reports.
