'No makeup' makeup has been a massive trend in the past few years, with many celebrities and public figures rocking this look every day on social media - and even taking it a notch higher by revealing their imperfections. As a beauty blogger, I enjoy trying the latest trends in makeup and getting all glammed up for events. However, on some days, all I need is that extra time in the morning to sleep - that's when the au naturel look comes in handy.
I got on the bandwagon recently and started wearing less makeup, because it's more practical and convenient for my lifestyle. In my opinion, there are many reasons why ladies might opt for the no-makeup look. The most common one is their busy schedules - especially working mums, as they have to juggle numerous tasks and still look presentable for work meetings. Another reason might be the lack of makeup skills, as not everyone can draw the perfect winged eyeliner or contour like the Kardashians. Minimal makeup, therefore, seems like the goof-proof way to look polished and enhance one's facial features. While some might argue that 'no makeup' makeup can consume just as much time as dramatic looks, mine consists of these four products and does not take more than five minutes:
. Tinted moisturiser to even out the skin tone and give it a nice healthy glow
. A few dots of concealer to cover my under-eye dark circles and any blemishes
. Mascara to give my lashes volume and curl
. A stain that can be used on both lips and cheeks to bring back some colour to my face
In conclusion, I'm a huge supporter of 'no makeup' makeup, as it's the quick-fix way to look awake, well-rested and a great way to enhance my facial features.

Beauty trends seem to revive themselves year after year in new and improved ways, until they eventually collapse on themselves and, then, it's like anything goes. Perhaps that's what's been brewing this past year with the no-makeup look becoming a runway staple and a statement in itself, ever since Alicia Keys braved the red carpet sporting no makeup at all. There has been a whirlwind of video tutorials by bloggers and vloggers around the world, trying to replicate the look in their own unique way.
What's it all about though? The no-makeup look is essentially having makeup on - but not visibly so, which means nude shades for lips, eyes, cheeks, skin and everything in between.
Though it might be a good change to embrace once in a
while, it isn't something that works all day every day and definitely not for everyone. I have experimented plenty with the trend, too. My skin tone is wheatish and, while the skin and eye colours worked, a nude shade for the lips simply didn't make the cut for me. It almost seemed as if I'd put in too much effort and the results weren't satisfying enough. It definitely didn't bring out the wow factor for me.
It would be worth noting that a person's skin tone plays a big role when experimenting with any makeup look. The no-makeup look certainly does not complement pale or fair skin tones. You need a little colour for your features to pop out, and with nudes that isn't quite possible.
Well, as they say, if it works for you, well and good. If it doesn't, however, there's plenty of fantastic colour around to paint your face with!
