An 18-year-old, who killed his father allegedly under the 'influence of jinn,' has been charged by Sharjah Sharia Court of First Instance recently.
The Arab youth, a US nationality, murdered his father with a fire extinguisher at the latter's office in Al Qasimiya, Sharjah.
The defense lawyer has presented a pardon from the family members before the court.
During the court hearing the accused told the presiding judge Dr Yaqoub Al Hamadi that he had no intention of murdering his father and said that he did not remember anything.
The young man looked stable and answered all questions during the first court hearing, which was attended by his relatives.
The police investigation showed that the son who was living and studying in the US was mentally ill and was brought back to the UAE by the father.
During the interrogation, he was in an abnormal condition and said he was being controlled by the jinn. So the public prosecution referred him to court for medical check up and to submit report on his case.
The mother told the public prosecution that her son was having psychological problems and they noticed that after he returned from US. He used to tell them that the jinn is controlling him and asking him to do strange things.
The father then brought a faith healer from Sudan to treat the son. Meanwhile, the father kept the son's passport in his custody. The incident happened the day the faith healer left the home.
After dropping the faith healer, the father-son duo entered the office and before the father could switch on the light, the suspect, allegedly, hit the father on his head with the fire extinguisher.
The father was badly hurt and he was shifted to his house by his daughter and another relative. He was then moved to Kuwaiti Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before he could reach there.
During interrogation, the son told the police that a jinn had ordered him to kill his father.
The jinn also promised to retrieve his passport from the father's custody and travel with him to the US.
The son claimed that he was not aware of what he had done. All he could remember was the jinn ordering him to kill his father.
He has been detained in an isolated cell where he allegedly showed signs of mental illness.
He also told the police that he worshipped satan, while he was in the US.
