A Filipino janitor in Canada is now 7 million Canadian dollars (Dh18 million approx) richer after winning the jackpot prize in a lottery last month.
According to GMA News, Vito Halasan won the prize just a couple of days before his birthday. The 57-year-old janitor recalls the moment when he matched all six numbers on his Lotto 6/49 ticket. "I remember scanning my ticket and seeing all these numbers," says Halasan. "I have really blurry vision so I had to hold the ticket right up to my face. I couldn't believe it."
After realising that he won, he called his daughter who doubted him at first and had to check online 'several times' to confirm the win.
Speaking of his plans with the huge windfall, Halasan said that he will use the money to buy a house for his children and grandchildren.
"I buy lottery tickets so I can dream,"Halasan says. "I dream of being able to take care of my kids and make their future better. Now we'll be able to buy a nice house for my children and grandchildren."
Despite the win, he said that he doesn't plan to leave his job as a janitor.
