In what looks like a possible hate crime, a Scottish Muslim tourist's clothes were set on fire as she shopped on Fifth Avenue in New York city.
According to a report by New York Daily News, the woman, 36, was shopping at the boutiques when she felt heat on her arm. To her shock, her blouse had been set on fire. Luckily she was unharmed.
A police source told New York Daily News, "She saw the suspect pull a lighter away and walk away. He doesn't say anything."
The woman then went to the police - who published photographs showing the suspect wearing a black sleeveless vest, black trousers and a hat.
Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, told New York Daily News, "I would obviously be concerned because it's symptomatic of the overall rise in Islamophobic sentiment in our society."
The incident came days after a New York City woman attacked two Muslim women who were pushing their young children in strollers and tried to rip off one woman's hijab.
