A teenage girl is being lauded online for extending help and communicating with a deaf and blind man on Alaska Airlines flight. Clara Daly, 15, came forward to communicate with Tim Cook when flight attendants failed to understand what the passenger travelling alone was trying to convey.
Daly rushed to help the man as soon as flight attendants checked if anyone on the flight knew sign language as she had learnt American Sign Language (ASL). The teenager helped the man for the rest of the journey and ensured his needs were met.
"He like didn't need anything. He was just lonely and wanted to talk," CBS Los Angeles quoted Daly as saying.
A co-passenger, Lynette Scribner, who was sitting in the same row the man, shared on Facebook pictures of the young woman helping a deaf and blind fellow passenger. The post went viral with over 1.2 million reactions and more than 6.5 lakh shares.
Scribner explains in her post that Tim Cook was flying alone from Boston's Logan International Airport after visiting his sister. "I watched as they (flight attendants) didn't flinch when he reached out to touch their faces and arms. They took his hand and tried so hard to communicate with him, to no avail. He had some verbal ability, but clearly could not understand them," Scribner wrote on Facebook.
The post touched millions hearts online and prompted the airline to share a blog post of the incident writing: 'After the flight landed, a service provider from a senior living home picked Cook up at the airport'.
Scribner further wrote on Facebook: "I can't say enough about this beautiful young woman named Clara who didn't think twice about helping her fellow passenger. It was a beautiful reminder, in this time of too much awfulness, that there are still good, good people who are willing to look out for each other."
