295 fire drills held in Dubai

The Dubai Civil Defence conducted 295 fire evacuation drills from January to June this year benefitting 169,755 people.

“These drills, which have helped us in risk analysis, will be continued in various sectors throughout the year in coordination with our partners in government and the private sectors to keep us ready to handle emergencies,” Major Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director of the Dubai Civil Defence, said.

He said that the achievement of the drills, in relation to their objective, has risen from 97 per cent in 2010 to 120 per cent in 2011 and to 163.2 per cent in 2012 which is in line with the Dubai Civil Defence strategy. Matroushi said that Civil Defence officials were able to reach accident sites in 5.8 minutes compared to international standard of 6 to 8 minutes. He said that 2,981 firefighters, 910 officers of Dubai Police and 855 rescuers of the Dubai Ambulance unified centre participated in the fire drills.

Al Satwa Civil Defence Station came on top by holding 56 drills in 7,589 minutes and the teams travelled 1,737km to reach drill scenes.
