5 parks to come up in Shamkha, Adlah

The move seeks to cater to the needs of the population and keep up with the overall urban development taking place in Abu Dhabi city and metropolitan areas.

Rashid Al Falasi, Director of Parks and Recreational Facilities at the municipality, said: “Developing and constructing parks, playgrounds and recreational facilities in the mainland echoes the vision of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City of ensuring a superior quality of life and sustainable environment for the residents of the Capital. The project is also undertaken in the context of the municipality’s mission of providing best-in-class customer-centric services through active engagement with the community.”

“The project’s components are dotted over five parks, four of which are in Al Shamkha and one in Al Adlah, with areas ranging from 7,600 to 14,000 square metres. It seeks to provide a natural, recreational avenue in Al Shamkha and Al Adlah areas and increase commons, thus providing healthy environment and aesthetic, modern outlook.

The project is also intended to promote and encourage physical activities by providing various playgrounds for practicing games for all age groups including people with special needs.

It also designates certain areas as childrens playgrounds that fully conforms to the highest standards of fun, quality and public safety,” continued Al Falasi.

Key components and elements of parks include mini football playgrounds, multi-purpose playgrounds as well as playgrounds for kids, people of all ages, and people with special needs. They also include fitness and exercise equipment, fountains, shaded hikes, shaded grilling areas, open spaces for recreation and public squares.

“Construction work on the five parks is expected to commence by mid-September 2013 and are slated for completion by the end of September 2014,” concluded Al Falasi in a final remark.

He said: “The municipality gives utmost attention to the designs of parks by tailoring a unique and distinctive theme for each park by adopting a specific selection of aesthetic elements, perpetuating sustainability concepts through using tip-top material, advanced energy-efficient lighting systems, and rationalising consumption of irrigation water.

The project also allows for growing selected native plants constituting 20 to 30 per cent of total plantation area in a way consistent with the design aspect,” he added.
