ABU DHABI — Around 80 cases of heat exhaustion, mainly hitting labourers, were reported in the capital since the beginning of July, official sources at emergency departments of hospitals said.
Speaking to Khaleej Times yesterday, an official medical source at Mafraq Hospital said the emergency department received more than 40 cases from July 1 to 10, mainly of mild to moderate heat exhaustion.
“Most of the patients were suffering complications arising out of heat exhaustion. They were treated and discharged the same day. Most of them were in need of cold water and some fluids,” said the source.
He said on days when the temperature was high, the emergency department used to receive 10 patients a day or even more.
“However, during weekends, no cases were reported at the hospital,” added the official.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) said 35 patients with heat exhaustion complications were admitted at the emergency unit for treatment during the same period.
