Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, CEO of the Public Transport Agency of the RTA, said, "By next year, most of the bus shelters in Dubai would be air-conditioned. We would be increasing the number of air-conditioned bus shelters to more than double in the future. The plan is to convert most of the bus shelters into air-conditioned ones in Dubai," he said.

The air-conditioned bus shelter project had been delayed due to various reasons. Officials said that certain changes needed to be made in the existing plan.

"We had put up steel seats at first. But then due to the extra air-conditioning, they used to turn very cold. So after receiving the feedback from the users, we ultimately decided to replace them with fibre glass seats. The number of seats also has been increased from six to 12. In addition, there will be changes in the quality of doors, too," Al Mulla stated.

"There would be air-conditioned bus stations with facilities like ATMs, and newspaper and food vending machines at many bus stands soon. The number of such shelters will depend on the requirement of the area. In hugely-populated areas, we will install bigger and more shelters to cater to the needs of the people," he added.
