A die-hard fan of picture-perfect Dubai

DUBAI — For nature-lover Saeed Mian, a Pakistani expatriate, progress, to a large extent, means the growth of gardens. From that prism too, Dubai, says Mian, is a huge success, aside from the breathtaking skyscrapers that dot the city’s ambience today.

Saeed MianNo wonder that Mian calls Dubai “the city of gardens.”

Mian has been residing in Dubai since 1969, before the emirates came together to form the UAE.

“There were only small gardens and palm trees then, where we used to pass our free time,” reminiscences the Pakistani national, who had come here as a dreamy-eyed 19-year-old.

Talking about the earlier landmarks, Mian says, “there used to be small gardens such as the one near the Fish Roundabout in Deira and the Rolla Square in Sharjah. But that was all. There was not much greenery around.”

Mian, the owner of Saeed Jewellery showroom, is astonished, and proud as well, to witness the city’s phenomenal growth. “Today, we have a number of malls, plenty of gardens, the zoo, and the superb roads. This growth is truly amazing,” says the veteran jeweller.

“The growth of Dubai is incomparable. I have travelled all over the world, but I have never come across such growth anywhere else,” says Mian, who also owns a textile factory in Ras Al Khaimah.

He says the pace of growth and the safety that Dubai offers, has encouraged him to further expand his business.

“After 1971, the UAE has steadily headed to a new era of progress and growth,” he notes.

“Now the country boasts of a massive growth in all sectors. This country also has an almost zero crime rate,” he points out.

Mian believes that some of the factors behind Dubai’s, and the UAE’s, amazing success story, are its strong administrative policies, and the exceptionally high standards of services offered to the residents, which are clearly among the best in the world.

“The UAE is like my home now. I have spent most of my life here. My children were born and brought up in Dubai. This is where my home is,” he says.
