ABU DHABI - The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City has launched the initial phase of ‘Makani’ service to serve as a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Portal and a focal point of information and spatial data-related assets.
The Portal is set to provide easy access to a vital pool of information that helps cut short transactions processing time and cost besides eliminating any overlapping or duplication of processes. It also supports taking informed decisions in a speedy & dynamic manner using latest technological systems in a process that echoes the Municipality’s Mission of delivering top quality, effective and customer-centric services.
Eng. Salah Al Sarraj, Acting Executive Director of Town Planning Sector, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, said: ‘Makani’ is a new addition to the galaxy of services offered by the Municipality and is intended to act as a main Portal for the exchange of data and offering GIS services to all public & private agencies besides offering domestic use to Municipal Sectors and Divisions engaged in asset management.’
He further stated: ‘The Portal is of great importance as it uses GIS applications in planning, designing and constructing projects & roads as well as navigational purposes in support of several Divisions namely; Urban Planning, Lands & Properties, Building Permits, Roads & Infrastructure, and Parks & Recreational Facilities. Its importance is also underlined through benefiting from the data analysis properties and statistical functions to be provided by the Portal in the near future and the services will also be made available to the use of other government agencies and some external partners as well.’
In the same context, engineer Yousuf Al Marzouqi, Director of Spatial Data Division, said: ‘The Municipality has developed and launched ‘Makani’ Portal to address the needs and requirements of various municipal sectors, divisions as well as strategic partners. Every effort is being made to ensure that the Portal will be easy to use and contains most the essential tools needed for the daily business routines.
All system applications have been enhanced in full to form a series of integrated programs & systems besides showcasing the achievements made by the Municipality through Spatial Data Division in terms of applying or introducing the most sophisticated GIS applications such as the Base Map, Survey Stations, Seismic Hazards Monitoring, and ‘Makani’ among a host of other advanced schemes and programs in place.
‘The new Portal features high-tech properties in having an infrastructure incorporating high-speed Xeon Processors operating in an environment that ensures the distribution of the load on the Central Server, and using Oracle database together with the latest GIS software & techniques enabling users access to a full range of e-services that use Geographical Zooming Tools along with specialist data capable of slashing the transaction processing time and cost to the minimum,’ he concluded.
