Bangladesh’s Independence Day anniversary celebrated

ABU DHABI — The embassy of Bangladesh observed the 35th anniversary of national and independence day of Bangladesh yesterday with traditional gaiety and fervour.

The national flag was hoisted at the chancery premises yesterday morning by Nazimullah Chowdhury, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the UAE.

Other embassy officials and members of the Bangladeshi community were also present.

At a meeting held on the occasion, special messages from the country's president, prime minister and foreign minister were read out.

The ambassador also gave a short speech highlighting the significance of the war of liberation and paid homage to the martyrs and valiant freedom fighters of the war for independence.

Chowdhury also underlined the tremendous socio-economic development achieved in Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He lauded the contribution of Bangladeshi expatriates in the UAE in the nation-building process.

The ambassador urged the Bangladeshi community to send their remittance through banking channel and thereby contribute to the economic progress of the country.

The event was concluded with special prayers for the martyrs and for the prosperity of Bangladesh.
