ABU DHABI — The Abu Dhabi Municipality has ordered all shops and supermarkets in the capital to take off the shelves Chinese-made toothpastes which reportedly contain some poisonous elements. The municipality has also taken samples to ascertain the contamination in the product, according to municipality sources.
Sources said the municipality was coordinating with other municipalities and departments after the Saudi Ministry for Trade and Industry banned seven brands of Chinese toothpastes as they contained poisonous residues.
Earlier, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned consumers not to consume farm-raised Chinese seafood as it contained potentially harmful residues.
After the warnings, the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) carried out inspections throughout the emirate and confirmed that the farm-raised seafood was not available in the capital’s markets but cautioned to double-check while using Chinese food and any commodity of daily use.
