SHARJAH — The Director of Sharjah Educational Zone, Fawziyya Hassan has refuted the report in the Arabic daily Al Bayan yesterday that the classrooms of one of its affiliated government schools located at Al Qara'in area were without desks and chairs and the girl students are sitting on the floor.
In a surprise visit to the school yesterday Fawziyya Hassan, who was accompanied by her two assistants and the head of the administrative affairs section, alleged that the principal of the said school Jameela Abdul Aziz Al Miqahwai, who reported for duty this Saturday had deliberately allowed the school to deteriorate into such a chaotic state. She said it appeared during the visit that some classrooms accommodate 15 students each, while their capacity is 40 desks and chairs.
The principal had refused to move the unused desks to other classrooms, she said adding that this confirmed the pre-planned intention to invite the photographer of the said daily to shoot the classroom with empty desks.
A report submitted by the zonal administration to the Ministry of Education yesterday stated that the school has 400 girl students, and a total of 440 desks and chairs were provided to the school on August 28 this year. However, the school management did not distribute this furniture to the classrooms after receipt.
