Speaking on the occasion of the opening of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) at the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) yesterday, Dr Jeehan A Qadir, specialist dermatologist and executive director of AACSH said that while the most favoured treatment among women was liposuction, men preferred gynaecomastia (removal of fat from the breast) and hair restoration procedures. “The physical structure and lifestyle of Arab men leads to a deposit of extra fat around their breasts. So men prefer a cosmetic procedure to have it removed,” she explained.
The Minister of Health, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami, inaugurated the state-of-the-art hospital constructed at a cost of Dh150 million. It is an internationally accredited hospital providing wide ranging services and modern techniques in cosmetics.
The hospital will soon include the AACSH Educational Centre to provide internationally accredited surgical and non-surgical workshops affiliated to the AACS in the US.
“We have a private entrance to respect the privacy of clients who request for such,” she explained, adding that the target market for cosmetic surgery in the region was worth Dh1.8 billion.
“There is a huge number of people who travel abroad for cosmetic procedures. Because the UAE is a tax free market, so we also hope to attract people visiting the UAE as well,” said Dr Jeehan, adding that the cost of the procedures would fit into the budgets of most people here.
“Cosmetic surgery is relatively pain-free and people can walk out of the hospital the very next day, so this means that tourists could also make use of this procedure which is now available in the UAE,” she added.
The hospital provides all kinds of cosmetic surgery under one roof, designed as harmoniously-connected departments in a unique and romantic environment.
It includes Anti-Aging Department which provide all the non-invasive services and the injectable therapy.
On the occasion, Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, CEO of Dubai Healthcare City, while talking about a shortage of medical staff at the city said, “Shortage of nurses exists everywhere in the world, but we aim to attract more qualified staff by offering them incentives, and Dubai is a city where people just love to come and work.”
“The AACS Hospital’s opening is DHCC’s first step towards cosmetic surgery, advancing our mission of providing holistic care across the full range of healthcare services,” she added.
Dr Muthahidda said the second phase of the construction of DHCC was 70 per cent completed.
