The fuel surcharge in the monthly electricity and water bill varies depending on the rate of increase or decrease in the actual cost of fuel used by Dewa’s generation plants. It is shown separately in the monthly bill of the consumer.

The authority has received letters from 150 contractors interested in building phase 1 of the 10-megawatt solar plants in Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park. The work on the mega project will begin on October 20, coinciding with Dubai World Energy Forum, which will be held in conjunction with New York-based World Energy Forum.

The Dewa will start getting power generated at the nuclear energy stations in Abu Dhabi in 2020 as per its 2030 strategy, which aims to fulfil 12 per cent of its total electricity needs from nuclear energy.

As per the 2030 plan, 70 per cent of the power will be sourced from gas as fuel, 12 per cent from nuclear energy, 12 per cent from clean coal and 5 per cent from renewable energy such as solar. The Dewa will start generating electricity with clean coal in 2017.
