The revenue generated during the privatisation process was more than Dh24 million, according to Khalid Ahmed Al Shaikh Mubarak, acting Director-General of Dohms. Recently, the department has embarked on a plan to privatise all unessential service departments with the aim of upgrading performance standards. The resulting savings will be utilised in developing and upgrading the standard and quality of other services the department offers, he said.

The privatisation strategy will cut costs to nearly Dh36.4 million after privatising the services of messengers, transport and maintenance, said Mubarak.

Giving details, Mubarak said that the internal cleaning service department topped the list in terms of expenditure savings at 73 per cent, followed by the security department (67 per cent), agriculture (65 per cent), nutrition (over 50 per cent ) and maintenance of residential compounds (35 per cent).

Mubarak added that the department had, however, fully privatised the agriculture, cleaning, nutrition and security service departments. Other service departments will be privatised before the year end, he added.

He said that the move was taken after conducting an in-depth study based on modern financial management concepts — the primary aim being rationalising the department's general expenditure and overall upgradation of its various public services.
