DUBAI — The Dubai Police reconfirmed on Wednesday that the Asian’s death after falling from the 148th floor of Bur Khalifa on Tuesday was a case of suicide.
He was working as a foreman of a contracting company and the Indian Consulate in Dubai identified him as 38-year-old Athiraman Kannan from the state of Tamil Nadu.
Colonel Ali Ghanem, Director of the Bur Dubai Police Station, said Kannan jumped from a place where the company is doing construction work. The victim had removed his shoes before jumping. He left his personal notes in the same location, Col Ghanem said.
He hit the iron fences on the façade of the tower.
Col Ghanem called on the public to keep away from rumours and verify truth from the source, referring to statements made by friends of the deceased that he had some problems with his employer, but the deceased had been under severe psychological trauma caused by the death of his brother, Wam reported.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Indian Consulate said, “Investigations into the death are currently being undertaken by the police authorities.
The consulate is in touch with the authorities concerned and will extend all assistance in sending the mortal remains to his family after completion of the required formalities.” — amira@khaleejtimes.com
