Dubai to get small fire-fighting vehicles

DUBAI — The Dubai Civil Defence will deploy by next March small fire-fighting vehicles to deal with fires that erupt in cars on Dubai roads.

The cars would be working round-the-clock on highways to provide early intervention in car fire cases till the arrival of the fire-brigade. The emergency fire-fighting cars would be equipped with rescue equipment and fire suppression equipment.

The Civil Defence has decided to introduce the cars because of the increase in the number of car fire accidents during the past four years.

Colonel Ahmed Hamad, Director of General Department of Forensic Science, the emergency intervention car would help prevent severe injuries to victims.

As many as 101 cars caught fire during the first half of the current year. The number of fire accidents reported ast year was 553.

Two care fire cases took place during the current month and resulted in the death of eight persons.

The first accident took place last Tuesday on Shaikh Zayed Road near Karama when a motorist hit the walls of the tunnel leading to Karama. As a result, the car overturned and five persons were killed.

The second accident took place last Sunday when an Omani motorist driving a four-wheel drive vehicle hit a car which was parked on the Dubai-Al Ain Road, as a result of which the Omani driver and two other persons in the parked car were killed.
