DUBAI — A whopping Dh3.12 million was offered for a two-digit number plate during an auction for some important numbers held by the Roads and Transport Authority at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel yesterday.
Attended by over 150 bidders, Dh3.12 million was paid for the number plate E/15 with a value of Dh270,000 by UAE national Aqeel Sayed Abdallah.
The total amount collected in the two-hour auction was Dh28,950,000, said Abdul Rehman Al Shaer, Head of Licensing Department, RTA. The second highest bid was Dh2 million for a number plate with a value of Dh270,000. There were four number plates up for auction at this value.
The minimum amount paid by bidders for the two digit number plates was Dh1.2 million for a value of Dh250,000 in which seven number plates were up for auction.
The highest bid for a three digit number plate was Dh900,000 while the lowest was Dh270,000 while the value of the number plates ranged from Dh150,000 to Dh50,000.
“Dh100,000 was the highest bid for a four digit number plate while the minimum was Dh80,000. The values of these plates ranged from Dh10,000-40,000,” said Al Shaer.
“For number plates with five digits, the value of the highest bid was more or less the same as that of four digit numbers, ie Dh100,000. The value ranged from Dh10,000-40,000,” he explained.
