The Dubai Municipality has recently distributed fans to park visitors and beachgoers to enhance their summer experience in outdoor areas.
In line with Dubai's Happiness strategy, the initiative aims to alleviate the summer heat effect - that sometimes exceeds 45°C - on Jumeirah park and beach visitors.
After monitoring factors that may interfere with people's happiness, municipality officials said in a statement: "although the weather is smoother in parks and beaches, we figured that fans can contribute to a better experience for residents, helping them enjoy their outdoor visits."
The initiative also celebrates UAE's heritage through the fans that are modern versions of traditional "Mahafa" used in the past to make the air cool.
Through a similar initiative during the same period last year, the municipality distributed umbrellas to protect pedestrians from the summer heat. It benefited people whose jobs require them to stay outdoors for long hours, said a municipality spokesperson in a statement.
Umbrellas were distributed at the municipality headquarters in Deira, Al Manara centre and several metro stations including Union and Al Rigga stations. reporters@khaleejtimes.com
