A female 'doctor' in Manila was arrested by the local police after she allegedly killed one of her patients during a botched operation at a hotel in the Philippine capital.
According to ABS-CBN News, 57-year-old Luzviminda Tibay admitted that she helped a Filipino expat from Dubai undertake a medical procedure. A Filipino Times report also revealed that 32-year-old Nelia Sotelo travelled all the way from Dubai to Manila to undergo the procedure.
Tibay admitted to charging Sotelo 10,000 Philippine pesos (Dh685 appox.) for the operation. She also admitted that they had never met before and had only communicated via social media.
The two met at a hotel room in Manila where the quack gave Sotelo some medicine to help with the procedure. But the medicine caused made her bleed; she was later found dead in the hotel's bathroom. Tibay admitted to the police that she got the medicine from a hole-in-the-wall pharmacy in Manila's Quiapo district.
Documents from Manila Police District reveal that the Dubai-based Filipino expat died of septic shock and blood profusion.
Authorities said that Tibay was easy to track down and capture since she was a well-known quack in the area. She is facing several charges, including homicide and reckless imprudence.
