However, no casualties were reported in the incident. When the fire broke out, some 30 workers were engaged in work.

‘Waterfield Factory’ located in Industrial Area 10 of Sharjah suffered an estimated loss of Dh5 million, a police source said.

Lt. Rashid Al Shamsi, Duty Officer at Al Buhairah Police Station, who rushed to the site along with Civil Defence firefighters, said that the thick smoke that was billowing out of the factory, could be seen from far areas in Sharjah as well as adjoining emirates. Garib Shabban, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence, said that the thick smoke was produced by chemical materials stored in the container inside the factory.

He added that improper storage of the materials has caused the fire.

Sharjah Civil Defence, aided by Dubai firefighters, managed to put out the fire which had erupted at around 3.45pm, before it could spread to the nearby warehouses. Firefighters continued with the cooling operations until late in the evening. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
