Gas cylinder prices
up by Dh2 to Dh5
in Ras Al Khaimah

In the new price list issued by DED on Monday, the price of a standard 22kg cooking gas cylinder rose from Dh88 to Dh90 and Dh175 to Dh180 for a 44kg cylinder.

The cost of the 11kg cylinder remained fixed at Dh45.

Hamad Al Shamsi, Deputy Director of DED, said that the new prices have been set after the department’s meeting with the representatives of companies and distributors of cooking gas in Ras Al Khaimah.

He noted that the department decided to make a slight increase in the prices of cooking gas cylinders because of the surge in gas prices in the international markets in the recent months. Shamsi said that gas prices in RAK remained same in the last three months and asked the public to bear with the new prices of cooking gas cylinders. He also urged companies and distributors of cooking gas in the emirate to stick to the official price list and to ensure that they comply with the safety requirements especially regarding the storage and transportation of gas cylinders.

The official has called on the consumers to always check the official list of prices of cooking gas cylinders to avoid being cheated by the distributors. Consumers have also been urged to make sure that the gas cylinders are fully filled as some companies have reportedly been selling half-filled bottles to customers. “Residents should also ensure that the logos of the gas companies and the expiry dates are on the cylinders,” said Shamsi.

Customers should insist on obtaining receipts after buying new gas cylinders from distributors and they should always report dealers who charge them extra money which is beyond the official prices to the department in order to take legal action against them.

The department has asked the public to call the department’s customer care hotline-8007333 for complaints or reports.

Meanwhile, officials at DED have denied allegations that some traders in RAK increased the prices of different products to take advantage of the Eid Al Fitr holiday season.

The officials said they have not received complaints from the public about any arbitrary increase in prices of products by traders ahead of Eid.

The department has assured the public that their inspection teams are working round the clock to monitor the markets and ensure stability in the prices of different products during the Eid holidays. Some residents had reported that some traders especially on Kuwait Street capitalised on the high demand for products. Prices of perfumes and clothes went up by five to 10 per cent, residents alleged.
