DUBAI — The winners of the 11th Middle East ICT Excellence Award were announced in a glittering awards ceremony at the Burj Al Arab here on Sunday.
The Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD), AME Info, Al Riyadh newspaper, Cisco, Intel, Air Arabia and Engineer Abdulla Awad Al Turaifi were all recognised for their outstanding contributions to the regional ICT development. The prestigious awards have been instituted by the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute, primarily to highlight the finest examples of ICT planning and implementation by business and government organisations in the Middle East.
The Awards honour organisations and key personalities who have the distinction of approaching ICT in outstanding and innovative ways, benefiting their whole community.
CATEGORIES AND WINNERS
Middle East eService of the Year winner: DNRD — in recognition of its initiatives for providing smart government and business applications which offers obvious benefits to citizens and businesses.
Middle East e-Business Portal of the Year winner: Air Arabia — in recognition of its portal which can serve as a role model for other regional organisations — providing an example of a vibrant, easy to use, informative, and transactional site serving the needs of the business organisation. Judges appreciated the portal's ease of contact and responsiveness, management of requests and complaints from businesses, refund policy and privacy practices published on the portal or web site.
Middle East ICT Partner of the Year winners: Cisco, Intel — in recognition of their proven track record in implementing new and innovative portal solutions. These leading organisations showed the qualitative results which illustrated the extent and type of impact of its services on ICT initiatives in the region.
Middle East Print and Electronic Media of the Year (Print) winner: Al Riyadh newspaper — in recognition of its excellence of content, community reach, creativity and effectiveness.
Middle East Print and Electronic Media of the Year (Business Portal) winner: AME Info — in recognition of its role as a media organisation and its impressive track record in service, providing strong daily news coverage, live updates, commercial opportunities, and interactivity.
Middle East ICT Project of the Year (HR management system) winner: Ministry of Civil Service Oman in recognition of its HR management system which met its goal by providing most user friendly and sophisticated services and practices. It created the real model for the regional e-government projects to move further to meet the global standards.
Middle East IT Manager of the Year winner: Eng. Abdulla Awad Al Turaifi, Head of the IT Department, Crown Prince Diwan, KSA, in recognition of his accomplishments in actively and consistently demonstrated initiative, support, creativity, commitment and leadership to ICT and in efficiently using ICT for achieving optimum business results.
