As reported by Khaleej Times on May 4, the 26-year-old, who works for a furniture firm in Dubai, could not fly home on May 1 for the wedding, which was planned for May 3, after his sponsor refused to release his passport.

At loggerheads with the female sponsor over a labour complaint he had filed against her, Kamalesh only wants to get back home at the earliest to enter into wedlock by “marrying his bride by himself”.

His sponsor did not release the passport on Sunday as she had promised to the Indian Consulate after Kamalesh sought the help of the mission on May 3. “She did not do that. But she came to the labour office on Sunday for the second sitting of the case. She did not appear on the first day of the sitting in April,” said Kamalesh.

Though the labour office had initially given May 10 as the date for its next sitting in the case, Kamalesh said officials called him in and his sponsor again on Monday after reading his wedding story published in Khaleej Times. “But she didn’t turn up and lied to the official that her baby was sick. But I know she is not even married,” he claimed.

Both of them were present again at the labour office on Tuesday. “She claimed that I had taken Dh3,400 as salary advance on several occasions whereas it is she who owes me Dh3,300 which she had taken from me last week for the fee she had paid for renewing my visa last year. She had claimed that she would hand over my passport if I gave her that fee amount,” Kamalesh alleged.

He said the labour official questioned the woman as to why she had not raised that point earlier. “The official also told her that she cannot put an entry ban on me as she requested.”

When contacted, his sponsor refused to talk to Khaleej Times. Kamalesh said the Indian mission has been in touch with him and has promised to mediate with the sponsor. “I just want to go home and conduct the actual marriage soon. My girl has been weeping when I talked to her. Both our families are very much worried about my safety.”
