ABU DHABI: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of Board of Trustees of Khalifa International Date Palm Award (KIDPA) today announced plans to establish the Khalifa Center for Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (KCBGE) as well as to hold the world’s largest conference on date palm in Abu Dhabi.
The announcement was made by Sheikh Nahyan as he honored the winners of fifth edition of the 5-category prestigious award today at Emirates Palace Hotel.
The new center will be established as an affiliate to the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in expression of appreciation of the efforts of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to bolster scientific research and palm tree farming based on solid technological and scientific foundations in order to encourage investments in the date palm industry as a pillar of the national economy.
Next year in Abu Dhabi, the fifth edition of the International Date Palm Conference in Abu Dhabi, currently organized every four years by the UAEU, will be the world’s largest, according to Sheikh Nahyan.
