The Ministerial Decree No. 186/2006 prohibits the fishing and marketing of Badh fish during the period between April 1 and May 31 every year as this period coincides with the spawning season of the Badh fish.

The EAD has confiscated 145kg of Badh fish from fish markets in Abu Dhabi. Of this, 90kg came from Al Ain Fish Market and 55kg came from the Al Mirfa Fish Market in Al Mirfa city in the western region.

An official of the EAD’s Marine Environment Research Centre said the decision to ban fishing of Badh fish in the specified period aimed at conserving this species.

He noted that all concerned parties, including the Abu Dhabi Fishermen Cooperative Society, which supervises the emirate’s fish markets, had been informed in advance about the ban.

The ministerial decree was also published and advertised in the local newspapers, the official pointed out.
