Last-minute rush in Telangana
It was a virtual procession of candidates all over Telangana on Wednesday with hundreds of them rushing to district collectorates to file their nomination papers for the April 30 elections to both the Lok Sabha and the state assembly.
Wednesday was the last day for filing of nomination papers in Telangana. With most parties barring the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) releasing their final list of candidates late on Tuesday night, there was a mad scramble of candidates rushing to the designated offices to file their nomination papers.
Election Commission officials said a total of 1,109 nominations were filed for assembly elections and 143 nominations for Lok Sabha polls till late afternoon. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on Thursday while the last date for withdrawal is April 12.
