Madras university offers courses in tie-up with CEI

DUBAI —The Campus Educational institute (CEI) of Dubai has announced tie-up wit the university of Madras, one of the old universities in India, to offer distance education programmes (DEPs). The DEPs include programmes like BBA, BCA, BCom, MBA, MCA, MSc.

Announcing the tie-up, Vice Chancellor of the University of Madras (UoM) Prof S.P. Thyagarajan, said the varsity has 66 programmes in the distance mode and 49 in the open scheme. The courses include 18 under-graduate, 14 post-graduate, 12 professional courses, 10 certificate courses, five diplomas and seven MPhils. "We have plans to introduce several new courses by next year including an Arabic programme," he said at a Press briefing. Also present were CEI Chairman Suleiman Khalifa Al Suwaidi, and Director of CEI B. Nandan

The 157-year-old UoM, which follows the UK inter-university system, is producing 150,000 graduates in different DEPs every year, Thyagarajan added. UoM is among the five top universities in India accordidng to a ranking by the Indian University Grants Commission.

Nandan said classes will start at Knowledge Village campus after two months. Admissions have already started. "After a lengthy process involving various phase of analysing the pre-qualification methods, UoM has authorised CEI to conduct their educational programmes in the UAE. The programmes are designed to provide the beginners with strong emphasis on job oriented courses like BBA, BCA And for the employed people who are on the look our for a MBA, MCA, UoM provides well structured PG management programmes," Nandan added.

UoM also has distant education centres in Bahrain, Singapore and Sri Lanka in addition to 32 off-campus centres in different parts of India. Its degrees are recognised all over the world.

"With vast expertise in the field of education and experienced faculty, Campus is well poised to take these programmes to the UAE residents and Indian community in particular," Nandan said.
