Officials from the mall, however, say that the accused was trespassing and seeking forceful entry into a no-entry area which resulted in a scuffle.

Fareed (name changed) said on September 8, he was visiting Mega Mall in Sharjah with his wife, when ‘he came in the way’ of the mall security who roughly pushed him aside. He said the manhandling caused several bruises to his arms, while his clothes were also torn.

‘I had gone to buy ice-cream for my wife on the third floor of the mall. It was very crowded and suddenly I came face-to-face with four huge plain clothes men who picked me up and threw me aside. I was hurt and also felt humiliated for being treated this way for no apparent fault of mine,’ claimed Fareed.

On behalf of Mega Mall, Raffi Ayad, Vice-President and General Manager replied, ‘We investigated and found that it occurred in the Entertainment Centre (third floor) of Mega Mall. Please note that because Friday is a family day in the Entertainment Centre, and bachelors are strictly not permitted entry into the area. This gentleman forcefully tried to go in without heeding security instructions which resulted in the manhandling.’ When contacted by Khaleej Times, Fareed denied that he had done anything wrong. He said he was accompanied by his wife and had gone there to buy ice-cream.
