Lt Col Ahmed Humaid Al Merri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation of Dubai Police said the incident took place last Saturday, when the Asian accompanied by some of his relatives went to a shop in the Gold Souq in Dubai. The suspect entered a shop and waited while his relatives were buying jewellery. Meanwhile, a European came to the shop to buy a ring to match two diamonds bangles worth Dh50,000, which she had bought from a nearby shop.

Al Merri said that the woman took a catalogue out of her bag to show the jeweller the design for the ring. At this moment the velvet bag containing the two bangles fell on the ground. As the woman was busy with the jeweller, KJ dragged the bag with his feet and picked it up. He told his relatives that he was leaving and walked out and drove away. However, he left his phone behind.

Al Merri said that meantime the woman realised that she hadlost her bag and reported the theft to the police patrol at the souq. The CID officials rushed to the shop where they found the mobile. They also retrieved the images from CCTV. The police arrested the suspect, and searched the car from where they found the two bangles.
