SHARJAH - Sharjah Police arrested a 24-year-old Bangladeshi man who disguised as an Arab woman to steal from flats in Sharjah.
Police CID said the man was arrested while trying to steal in the Al Mamas area.
The suspect during interrogation confessed that he had entered more than 20 flats and managed to steal a large number of mobile phones, cash, jewellery and other items. He knocked on the doors and asked the housewives to allow him into the flats on the pretext that he was looking for a job as a domestic help.
When the housewives went inside to bring him something to drink just out of sheer hospitality he would steal anything he could find.
He also confessed that he entered apartments left open by the housewives while waiting for school buses. The police said they received a complaint from an Indian woman about a suspicious looking Arab lady who had knocked on her door several times and when she asked her about the identity, the woman ran away.
The police investigation team covered the area closely and found an abaya and shiela clad person, but had a man’s shoes and trouser underneath the abaya. He wore a hijab with only the eye part opened and carried a ladies bag in which the police found number of mobile phones, prepaid phone cards, kitchen knives and cash. Lt-Col. Yousif Al Naqbi, Director of CID at Sharjah Police warned the families not to allow anyone enter their homes.
