'Mystery fever' tests negative

DUBAI — The test results in the case of the "mystery fever'' that led to the death of a young boy and hospitalisation of his family have tested negative for haemorrhagic fever, said the Minister of Health, Obaid Al Quttami yesterday.

The death of the two-year-old boy at Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah, however, has been attributed to "lack of immunity further complicated by wrong medication that affected his liver and fever."

The minister said that five samples had been sent to Germany and France out of which two results were received by the Ministry of Health on Monday.

"We had assured the public that locally done tests had shown that the virus detected was one that already exists in the country and does not lead to any serious complications," he said.
